Early B WINS 2020 Woordfees Award

UMG Live and UMG are pleased to report that Early B has received the award for Best performance: Contemporary Music – Open-air Production on the back of his performance at this year’s edition of the festival in Stellenbosch.

The winners of 2020 Toyota US Woordfees Woordtrofees awards were announced live on their Facebook Page at 18.00 on 7 April with artists and attendees requested to dress in their PYJAMAS , encouraging the #stayathome movement. Earl “Early B” Swartz was nominated alongside fellow artists Dagdrome in die Boland, Red Sheep and SpoegwolfPlease visit woordfees.co.za for Early B’s accpetance speech!

Given the extensive range of the festival programme, several panel members served on the Woordtrofees panel across the various genres. Panel members were invited to the panel on the basis of their expertise and experience across the genres.  Given the scope of the programme, some panels were assigned convenors. These were: Haddad Viljoen (Drama), Heinrich van der Mescht (Classical Music) and Rafiek Mammon (Contemporary Music). The panels made recommendations to the oversight panel which was responsible for the categories Best Upcoming Artists(s) and Best Festival Production.  Gillian Mitchell convened this panel which included Paul Boekkooi and Diane de Beer.

A number of special prizes were awarded along with awards for the top book sellers in four genres: Lifestyle, Poetry, Non-fiction and Prose.
